Papas

McRae loves his Papas.  And this summer, we took a couple trips for him to meet his great-grandparents.  When we introduced him to Grandpa Jim and Grandpa Al, he couldn't understand why they weren't called "Papas" as well.  So, he just started calling them Papa Al and Papa Jim.  He knows Papa Jim, because Papa Jim gives him haircuts.  And he remembers Papa Al because Papa Al has the horse named Chip.  He's especially drawn to them because they're both REAL cowboys.

The boys with Gr. Grandpa Jim Mayberry in his barbershop.  As you can see, McRae really needed a haircut, but for some reason, we didn't get one this day.

McRae doesn't love getting his hair cut, but I think going to Papa Jim makes it somewhat easier.  Although, he not so convincingly tells himself, "It doesn't hurt.  It's not scary.", about ten times before we actually get there.  You know, just to remind you...and maybe himself a little too.  :)

Just another shot of my handsome boys at the barber shop.

Gr. Grandparents Al and Charlene Skinner

Grandpa Al really won McRae over because he got down on the ground and played toys with him.  It was really sweet to watch grandpa playing with him.  Whenever grandpa would try to slip away and join in on the adult conversation, McRae was quick to invite him back down to his level.  And grandpa was just as quick to oblige.  He really sealed the deal when he gave McRae one of his hats.  And on a subsequent visit, another hat!  In the photos below, you see McRae wearing one of said hats and also sporting a toothpick...just like Papa Al.

After all of that fun, we had one tired boy.  And it made for a quiet trip home. :)

We are so grateful for such a rich heritage on both sides of our family.  Our boys have some amazing individuals to look up to.  We are grateful for the legacy they have left us and hope to be able to pass the torch of faithfulness and family on to future generations.

I am going to be a serial commenter ;)

Love your little bald man and McRae with his long hair needing a trim. And the picture with the toothpick? Awesome! What a character. It truly is a blessing for your boys to still have the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with their great grandparents.
